I spend my working life as a food and travel editor, judging where a city actually eats. A few days a week I take a private group into Athens on foot and show them exactly that: my own food walk, built from the addresses I keep returning to for work, not the ones a guidebook recycles.
We start in the hidden squares of Psyrri and wind toward the Varvakios Agora, the great nineteenth-century central market, moving through Athens neighbourhoods well beyond the tourist track. We stop at some of the city's oldest shops, a few of them standing for a hundred years, the kind of counters and stalls most visitors walk straight past. Ten tastings across three and a half unhurried hours, Greek wine and coffee poured along the way, each plate carrying the story of who makes it and why it still matters. It reads less like a tour than a long, slow meal walked across the real Athens.
