Real, verified notes from travellers on the private Athens food walk with Dimitris.

Dimitris was a very detailed and friendly tour guide who showed us the real local side of Athens. He was very interesting to talk to and hear about his travels and experiences. He gave a varied food experience that all 5 of us truly enjoyed. Highly recommend if you want to get a real feel for Greek culture and their food.JanineVerified guest · June 2026
We loved the local stops and the food was amazing. Dimitris was very knowledgeable and we had a great time!AnnVerified guest · June 2026
Our party of 4 wanted authentic Athenian food and experiences. Who better to guide us than a food and travel journalist! You know you are in the right place when all the customers are locals. You will get a taste of incredible sweets, pastries, Greek pies, souvlaki and the public market. Highly recommend!GuyVerified guest · May 2026
Dimitris gave us maybe the best European city tour we have ever had. We asked for a food and history tour centered around what the locals would do, not visiting tourists. We ate at incredible local joints and he ordered for us every time. Every place was sensational. The best inside look and experience in any city we have been.TroyVerified guest · May 2026
Had an incredible tour with Dimitris. I learned so much about the culture, beauty and history of Athens from him. He is exceptionally accommodating and helpful. Really enjoyed and recommend him so highly.CaraVerified guest · April 2026
We were a group of 4, with some limitations with mobility. Straight away Dimitris said the tour would be done at our pace and stops could be taken at any time. The diversity of foods gave us a real feel for Athenian food and their culture. We especially appreciated the lack of gyros and kebabs and loved the mezze at a small local restaurant.TonyVerified guest · April 2026
He took us away from the tourist hotspots to show us an authentic experience with Greek food, making several stops at stores and shops to try out different things, both sweet and savory. Our favorites were the loukoumades and the beef souvlaki. We highly recommend this tour to discover what delicacies Athens has to offer.AlmaVerified guest · March 2026
An absolutely fantastic food tour. He took us to real local spots rather than touristy places, the kind of places where people from the neighbourhood actually eat and drink. A wonderful honey tasting and a liqueur tasting. It honestly felt more like spending time with a friend who was showing us his city than being on a guided tour. A true highlight of our stay in Athens.GuestVerified guest · November 2025
Dimitris is a great person, like hanging out with an old friend. Tailored stops to our taste. Perfect amount of food for us, and snacks for later. Highly recommend!JayVerified guest · October 2025
Dimitris showed us some hidden gems and was great company. We went to 4 different places and tried about 10 to 15 different things, all of them super tasty. It was a birthday gift for 2 of our group and he made sure one place served them an extra piece of cake with a candle. On top of it, he gave great recommendations for Naxos and more.AnnalisaVerified guest · October 2025
We enjoyed our tour so much. First of all you will eat and eat and eat and always be happy with what you are eating. We really appreciated the family run and independent and specialty places he took us for traditional and delicious Greek food. We also enjoyed his company.SherylVerified guest · September 2025
Dimitris' walking food tour was a highlight of our business trip to Athens. The food stops were plentiful and generous. We had gyro, spanakopita, cheese pies, baklava and other sweet treats. We sampled liquors and tasted honeys. Genuinely a delightful afternoon. If you are debating taking this tour, do it, you will not be disappointed.MarkVerified guest · September 2025
A family of four who had a marvellous three hours sampling a wide range of authentic tastes around the quieter back streets. He was generous with his knowledge and very pleasant company. We came back loaded with snacks to try later as well. Highly recommend this experience.ShelleyVerified guest · September 2025
Dimitris was informative, relaxed, friendly and took us to excellent venues for a taste of Athens.SueVerified guest · August 2025
Excellent communication both pre and post tour. He made sure exactly what our priorities were and designed our time together just as expected. It was not pre-programmed with the same generic information, but customized for us. Perfect!JohnVerified guest · August 2025
We LOVED the food tour with Dimitris. He showed us a wide variety of local favorites, which were incredibly tasty, and gave a brief history of the Athens food scene. Our daughter is still talking about the souvlaki. Skip the tourist restaurants and join Dimitris for an unforgettable food tour.ElizabethVerified guest · July 2025
Relaxed, yet very well organized, he cared about making sure we were enjoying ourselves. He brought us to places we would have never found on our own, off the beaten tourist path, and made sure we discovered the best authentic Greek food. We are a family of 5; he is kid friendly and made our picky 12-year-old feel special.YvesVerified guest · May 2025
Dimitris is a great host and guide. It was great to learn about insights of Athens and living in Greece. We had a great time. Thank you.MatthiasVerified guest · April 2025
He was kind enough to tailor our evening to show us the sights in Athens and an overview of the city. The food was spectacular. We are still talking about it. He is personable, interesting, and fun to tour with.CarinVerified guest · October 2024
Dimitris led a wonderful tour. He adjusted his day to fit the schedule of our group. We had asked to try an authentic gyro, and they did not disappoint. He took time explaining various parts of food culture and his own experience as a food writer. All of the food was delicious and I definitely felt we got an authentic experience.TrishaVerified guest · June 2024
My wife and I went on a food tour with Dimitris and had a blast! Our walk throughout the Omonia neighborhood had many unique highlights, including a distillery and an experience of the public market. He made the experience very personalized, much like spending time with friends. We enjoyed the day so much, we organized another tour with him a few days later.ChrisVerified guest · June 2024
Exactly what we hoped: we learned about a neighborhood in Athens and tried many, many excellent Greek foods, plus Dimitris is knowledgeable about Athens and is very good company. We feel very lucky to have had this experience.JenniferVerified guest · May 2024
A fantastic tour guide. We had a wide variety of foods and drinks to try, on a relaxing walk around less touristy places of Athens. He was very knowledgeable, taught us some new Greek words and showed us parts of town we would not have gone otherwise. Highly recommend.RebeccaVerified guest · May 2024
Everything from initial contact through to rendezvous point and drop off was great. He took us to very authentic and local places to try everything from souvlaki, loukoumades, olives and honey, places that you would pass right by as a tourist. The food was delicious and all the vendors were so nice.InaVerified guest · April 2024
We had a wonderful time with Dimitris! The food we tried was awesome, and we visited a part of Athens we had not seen. Dimitris was fun, easy going and very informative!PatriciaVerified guest · February 2024
A great food tour and at the same time a little discussion about the history and present of Athens, and food of course. We love it. Thank you Dimitris!JukkaVerified guest · September 2023
We have done quite a lot of food tours in different cities as a family, but this one is up there with the best for variety and value, not to mention the delicious nature of everything we tried. The conversation was great too, and ranged from Greek history to politics and economics. No one was hungry enough for dinner that day!NicholasVerified guest · July 2022
Warm and welcoming, we knew straight away we were going to enjoy his company. We started at a fabulous bakery, then the fish and meat market, a smart taverna to taste souvlaki, and a local kafenio for freshly prepared meze. This tour is invaluable if you want to understand the real Greece and avoid the tourist traps. We wholeheartedly recommend booking with him.JudithVerified guest · June 2022
Dimitris showed us a different side of Athens through wonderful food in neighborhoods we would have never seen. We tried way more than 10 tastings, stopping at nuts and fruit stands for a little bag for the road. At the end we met the owner of a wonderful little taverna and sampled dishes totally new to us. Would 100% rebook the same tour.LisaVerified guest · May 2022
A great guide. We ate delicious food while walking around Athens on this private tour. We took our 2 picky eater children too and there was plenty of food for them to enjoy. I suggest doing this tour early in your stay so you can go back to the places you particularly like.AngelaVerified guest · May 2022
We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour with Dimitris. He was very attentive and took us to some lovely off the beaten track spots, meeting some very interesting locals. We could not recommend this tour and Dimitris more highly.AndrewVerified guest · April 2022
It was truly like knocking around the city with a dear friend. He introduced me to a wide variety of wonderful Greek food, all the while charming me with interesting historical and cultural commentary. I highly recommend this experience!KarenVerified guest · October 2021
Dimitris is a real local who loves the Greek foods that the Greeks love. We tasted honeys and baklava, but the best was a restaurant where only the locals go. We loved the small bites of Greek favorites. Great day, great food. Thank you Dimitris!KenVerified guest · September 2021
We were so fortunate to spend the day with Dimitris. We had a lovely drive through the countryside to his hometown of Agiannakis, visiting the beach where the Caretta Caretta turtles lay their eggs. We had lunch at his brother's taverna, a whole spread of traditional Greek food, and even met his mother. A truly special day, making us love Greece even more.ScottVerified guest · September 2021
It blew our expectations out of the water from an informational, enjoyable, delicious point of view. We had everything from baklava to a homemade meze meal as well as a tour of the meat, fish, and produce markets. The best thing we did in Athens!MicheleVerified guest · October 2021
What a treat to spend the morning with Dimitris. His energy, knowledge, insight and enthusiasm spill over. Highly recommend him.LeoraVerified guest · July 2021
Amazing knowledge, great tour. Takes you away from the tourist areas to see how real Greeks eat and live. Fun and knowledgeable with good food!AnilVerified guest · March 2020
From the beginning of our tour, my husband and I felt like we were one of Dimitris' friends! He started with a tasty freddo cappuccino and indulged us in local snacks along the way. The best part was sitting at a local mezze restaurant, chatting and trying new foods. A glass of wine and some gelato to end the tour.KatieVerified guest · September 2019
An ideal ambassador for our first time in Athens. He walked us through a day in the life of a local and imparted that food should always be enjoyed amongst family and friends. The samplings were plentiful and varied. I have been on other food tours before and this was the first time I did not feel rushed. Highly recommend!RodneyVerified guest · July 2019
Thanks Dimitris for a great experience in Athens. It was one of the best things we did on our trip. All of the food was very well-chosen and delicious. We would never have found the places you took us on our own. Very professional, well-spoken and knowledgeable. I highly recommend him.JeanetteVerified guest · August 2019
