VANE is an independent editorial publication about Mediterranean hotels and their restaurants, published at vanehotels.com. We keep data collection to the minimum a small publication needs, and we never sell it. This page explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

Who we are

VANE ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal data processed through vanehotels.com. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@vanehotels.com.

What we collect

Usage and analytics data. When you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate region, device and browser type, referring source). IP addresses are handled by Google in anonymized form and we do not use this data to identify individuals.
Newsletter data. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide and your consent, solely to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Data you send us. If you email us, we keep your message and address to reply and follow up.

We do not run user accounts, we do not sell products on the site, and we do not collect special categories of personal data.

Cookies and consent

By default, analytics and advertising storage are denied (Google Consent Mode). No analytics cookies are set until you choose Accept in the cookie banner. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (a value named vane_consent) so we do not ask again. If you choose Decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can clear this choice at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site.

How we use your data

To measure and improve the site (only with your consent).
To send the newsletter you asked for, and nothing else.
To respond to messages you send us.

Our legal bases under the GDPR are your consent (analytics and newsletter) and our legitimate interest in running and securing the site and replying to you.

Service providers we use

Google Analytics (Google Ireland / Google LLC), for consented website analytics.
Google Workspace / Google Sheets, where newsletter sign-ups are stored.
Vercel, which hosts the site and processes standard server logs for security and delivery.
Pinterest. We use the Pinterest API to publish our own editorial content to our own VANE Pinterest account. This integration does not collect, receive, or store personal data about visitors to this website or about Pinterest users.

These providers act as our processors or as independent controllers for their own platforms. Some are based in the United States; where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is covered by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

Analytics data is retained for up to 14 months. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy (portability), and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email privacy@vanehotels.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

VANE is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The date at the top shows the latest version, and material changes will be reflected here.
