A two-star dining room by Lake Jasna, on the edge of Kranjska Gora, where David Žefran cooks the Julian Alps: the produce of the valleys and high pastures around the restaurant, worked with the precision the level asks for, under the peaks of Razor and Prisojnik.
Creative Alpine, built almost entirely on the country around it. David Žefran reads the Julian Alps season by season and works the local larder, the cheeses, river fish, game, herbs and vegetables of the valleys and high pastures near Kranjska Gora, using each ingredient in full rather than paring it to the prettiest cut. The format is a tasting menu that turns with the mountains, precise and restrained, closer to refinement than to spectacle. Žefran is largely self-taught and spent time at Frantzén in Stockholm before he took over the pass, and he keeps the room small, which holds the kitchen close to every plate. The restaurant has rooms of its own by the water, and service is attentive without ceremony.
It holds two Michelin stars in the Guide Slovenia 2026, the third year running it has kept them, and it is the only restaurant in the country at that level, below only the three-star Hiša Franko. Slovenia is the quiet achiever of the Alpine table, and Milka earns its place the way the brand likes best: a serious kitchen in a small mountain town rather than a capital, tied to the land it sits on and run by the people who cook it. The setting does no harm either, an emerald lake under the Julian Alps, the peaks mirrored in the water from the restaurant's own door.
