A one-star dining room set on the medieval walls above Dubrovnik's old port, by St John's Fortress, where Marijo Curic cooks modern Mediterranean food from an open terrace that looks down over the moored boats and out to Lokrum.
Modern Mediterranean, built on the Adriatic and the Dalmatian hinterland, with French technique underneath and the odd Asian note worked in by hand. Marijo Curic has run the kitchen for years and keeps to two tasting menus, one of the dishes that made the room's name and one of its classics, each changing as the season turns. Fish lands from the coast below, and the cellar runs to several hundred labels, with Croatian growers given their due alongside the international names. The terrace sits along the old sea walls by St John's Fortress, tables above the water, and service is attentive without standing on ceremony.
It holds one Michelin star in the 2025 Guide Croatia and has kept the distinction since 2018, one of a small number of Adriatic kitchens to hold a star year after year. The setting does much of the talking, a terrace on the ramparts of a walled city with the old harbour below, but the cooking earns the place on its own: a serious kitchen in a town most visitors come to for the walls and the views. That is exactly the kind of table VANE looks for.
